Secret Pants “Super Terrific Summer Comedy People Party Fun Time Exciting Show”

Fri., Aug. 26, 9pm. $10. Khyber, 56 S. Second St. 215.238.5888. www.thekhyber.com

Last year Temple students Steve Thorne, Kemp Herron, Brian Craig and Josette Hammerstone were drinking Shirley Temples and a few beers at a bar in Center City when it suddenly occurred to them to start a comedy troupe. Or as Thorne puts it, “there was little point in not starting a comedy troupe.” Like Saturday Night Live, which cashed in on the TV revolution by taking advantage of its own medium, Secret Pants jumped on the Internet bandwagon, using the Web as their main forum for sharing material. The largely video-based group grew to 13 members, and their site has received thousands of hits from people yearning to see John Kobylarz’s “Monopoly Sketch.” The year-old organization will be holding its second live performance in its hometown alongside zombie surf rockers Mercury Radio Theater. Don’t expect cheesy improv games-the show will stick to a mix of video and live sketches. They’re currently working on a pilot script to produce this coming year in the hopes that they might land their own Secret Pants TV deal.
